Lily is my shadow, my soul companion and the sterotypical Jewish mother to all the other dogs and animals. She is in her element when she is bossing the sheep or other dogs around, but she is completely trustworthy with the sheep and lambs, baby ducks and chicks.  She has even been known to try to hatch out duck eggs on her own.

She had one litter of stuffed Pound Puppies and took great care of them for 5 weeks. (She "weaned" them by chewing off their noses!)    Alas, she has never had the opportunity to be a real mother since she is a PRA carrier and I had her spayed.

My little mixed breed was rescued by a friend who found her starving on the streets. She nursed her back to health and asked me to try to find an agility home for her since she is a born athlete.
Well, one week at my home, and I was hooked.  She is an incredibly athletic dog and loves flying through agility courses. I planned to show her competitively in agility and obedience, but her difficulty in handling stress (by running away) kept us out of the ring.
She is an incredible agility dog and I have certainly learned a lot working with her.

Marco was returned to me when he was two.  His intense, almost fanatical desire to please caused him to try too hard. He always had a difficult time with stress and separation anxiety, so I  never corrected him with more than a harsh voice and I learned how to apply clicker training/operant conditioning with him. He earned all his titles with high scores and many placements with an enthusiasm for working  that was a delight to see.
He started his herding career very late and at 11 years old earned his Herding Started sheep and duck titles with *5* High In Trials, multiple placements and one Reserve High In Trial.   He had one leg on his Herding Intermediate sheep title, one leg on his AHBA HRDI with a Reserve High In Trial.
In 2000 he was the #3 Terv in herding in the country.
In his later years, he continued to do herding demos and happily herded the guineas around the farm.

Meg came to live here when she was 18 months old, her 5th home. She was passed around because "she wouldn't work".  She came to me with many training problems and working with her was a tremendous learning experience. She had moments of absolute brillance when working sheep that left me breathless, but it was  a long hard road to develop a working relationship with her.

She had 5 points on her AKC Herding Championship when she passed away. She taught me so much about talent and intensity and athleticism in a dog, and she taught me patience and humility.  She taught me how to say "Thank You" to the judge when things went badly and how to be grateful when things went well.
I owe her so much, and miss her so deeply.  I know that she has sheep to care for up there until I join her.

Pooka was my once in a lifetime dog.   Stunningly beautiful with a soul to match.  She lived to please me and would do anything I asked of her with intensity and perfection.  I miss her very much.

Calais was my introduction to Tervuren.  He was incredibly smart and determined to do everything his way.  If only I had know about clicker training back then!  I learned a lot with him, but he and I were never very close.  He spent his last years with my ex since they adored each other.

Siggy was a puppy from the 2 junkyard dogs where my ex worked.  He was small, about 60 lbs, but had the biggest heart of any dog I've ever known.  Always happy, always ready to take on the world.   It was such a privilege to start my life with dogs with this guy.
He showed me how great and noble dogs can be.
Thank you, Siggy, Rest In Peace.

"The Rainbow Bridge"

- author unknown

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.
It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge,
there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water and warm spring weather.
The old and frail animals are young again.
Those who are maimed are made whole again.
They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing.
They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth.
So, each day they run and play until the day comes when
Suddenly one stops playing and looks up!
The nose twitches!
The ears are up!
The eyes are staring!
And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet,
You take him or her in your arms and embrace.
Your face is kissed again and again and again,
And you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together,
Never again to be separated.
